Holiday Mail for Heroes is a program to ensure that all Americans share the excitement and joy during the Christmas season. Holiday cards are collected from ordinary people (like us) and distributed to the women and men in service all over the world. This program is designed to send a touch of home to members of our U.S. military, veterans and their families, many of whom will be far away from home this holiday season.
Our members of Red Cross eagerly came to this event in the cold mists of the morning (it even sprinkled a few times!) to make cards and encourage the mall shoppers to do the same. Initially, the members passed out cards to inform those holiday shoppers about the event but the mall security guard prevented us from doing so (they also relocated us to a tiny isolated corridor area). So some of our members had nothing to do but build a cross! We also made many snowflakes and stuck them on cards; although the artistic skill might not have been there, it's the thought that counts!
Afterward, we went shopping, that is all.
